8 Essential Social Media Tips to Help Artists Start the New Year Strong

Dear Artist,
Here are some practical tips for preparing your Social Media accounts for the new year.

1. Start by reflecting on this past year.
Take a gander at your analytics, and note what content performed well. Which images were your most popular? And more importantly, which did you enjoy making the most? What brought you joy? What posed a challenge for you? Take notes and use this to guide you for 2025 - let's dive deeper.

2. Let's begin with goal setting.
Goal setting is how we reach our goals and make you we progress and don't stagnate. What do you want to achieve in 2025? Examples could be more followers, more sales, better engagement, stronger connection, or something else. Now break it down into something measurable and manageable for you: For instance, post 3 times a week.

3. From there, plan out your content calendar.
Map out your key dates like holidays, art challenges, or events you plan to attend. Setting a theme for each month can also help to keep your content cohesive and you can break the body of artwork you already have into these and schedule them for the months they fit into. To make it easier on yourself, consider using a scheduling tool for some of your posts. What else?

4. Now is a good time to refresh all your profiles.
Update your profile picture, and bio to reflect your current focus. Update all your links as well. Maybe it's time to set up a linktree if you haven't already? Audit your older posts and clean up content that no longer aligns with what you do.

5. Build up a batch of evergreen content.
This can be art you've already done, tutorials, art times or FAQs about your art, facts about you as an artist, photos of your process, and so on. These posts will help you fill in your content calendar at busy times during the year.

6. Social Media is an ever-changing landscape so focus on your email marketing.
If you don't already have a newsletter, now is the time to start one. Encourage your followers to sign up for your newsletter, and offer them a lead magnet: What's that? It's a download that encourages them to sign up, this can be a set of lock screen images of your art, a digital tutorial, a digital sketchbook, desktop wallpapers, or whatever you would love to get from your favorite artist.

7. Start planning for your seasonal promotions.
Put deadlines on your calendar. Deadlines help us to get things done! Pick dates relevant to your audience, this can be holidays like Valentine's Day, Easter, Spring Time, Mother's Day, and so on. Plan when to start promoting these ahead of the actual event.

8. Set boundaries for yourself.
Decide how much time you want to dedicate to your social media account, schedule breaks for yourself so you can recharge, and use your analytics to guide you on what works so you're not posting without purpose.

And that's a good rundown of how to prepare yourself for the new year on social media! Things are changing with social media due to the advancements in tech, so focus on email marketing so you can always reach your own audience outside of what the major platforms are doing.
