At Valkiri Studio, each print release is clearly identified so collectors know what kind of edition they are purchasing and how it relates to earlier or later releases of the same artwork.
Our edition system is designed to preserve the distinction between numbered collector releases, older limited editions, open editions, and small-run archive releases.
First Editions
First Editions are the first numbered studio release of an artwork.
- Released in a clearly defined quantity
- Signed and numbered
- Marked as First Edition
- Produced at the size, paper, and finish specified for that release
- Once sold out, that exact edition is not reprinted
If the artwork is released again later, it will be issued as a new edition and clearly distinguished from the First Edition.
Second Editions and Later Editions
Some artworks may return in a Second Edition or later edition after an earlier release has sold out.
Each new edition is:
- Clearly labeled as a separate edition
- Numbered within its own run
- Distinct from earlier editions through changes such as size, paper, finish, embossing, or another physical difference
- Never numbered as a continuation of the previous edition
This allows selected works to return while preserving the identity and scarcity of earlier releases.
Legacy Limited Editions
Some older Valkiri prints were originally released simply as Limited Editions before the current edition system was established.
These are now treated as the First Edition of those works.
- Their original edition size remains unchanged
- They will not be expanded or re-numbered
- Any future release of the same artwork will be clearly identified as a later edition and physically distinguished from the original
Open Editions
Open Editions are not limited by quantity.
- Produced on demand through our print partners
- Unsigned and unnumbered
- May be available in larger sizes or formats
- Clearly separate from numbered Collector’s Editions
Open Editions allow selected artwork to remain available without duplicating the format or status of numbered editions.
Vault Prints
Vault Prints are retired or archived artworks that occasionally return to the shop for a limited period.
- Printed as open editions.
- Unsigned and unnumbered unless otherwise noted.
- Available only while that artwork is temporarily out of the Vault.
- May rotate in and out of the shop over time.
- Clearly separate from numbered Collector’s Editions.
Edition Integrity
Each edition is defined by its own run, numbering, and physical specifications.
If an artwork appears again in a later release, the new edition will be clearly identified and differentiated from earlier versions.
This helps preserve the identity of each release while allowing selected artworks to return in new forms.
